CODE OF ETHICS

Every METCEA member is required to identify and uphold the values set forth in the code, which is founded on the principles of truth, honesty, fairness, and dependability, respect for and protection of human life and welfare, competence, and accountability.

  • METCEA member must practise his profession with integrity, conscience, dignity, and honour, and must adhere to the profession's best traditions.
  • METCEA member must understand the principles of ecosystemic interdependence, diversity, maintenance, resource recovery, and inter-relational harmony as the foundation of our continued existence, and that each of these has a sustainability threshold that should not be exceeded.
  • METCEA member must protect people's safety, health, and welfare, protect the environment, and promote workplace health and safety.
  • METCEA member shall only provide services, advise on, or undertake engineering assignments in his or her areas of competence, and provide accurate information about his or her qualifications and experience to clients.
  • In connection with any professional work undertaken by him, a METCEA member must maintain confidentiality and respect for secrets confided in him by clients, employers, and employees.
  • METCEA member must stay informed and up to date in his or her field of expertise, and he or she must strive to provide opportunities for professional development for his or her subordinates.
  • METCEA member shall act without regard to caste, creed, sect, or social status, and shall not commit an act against the national interest.
  • METCEA member must clearly explain to all parties involved the consequences of ignoring, overruling, or discarding technological and engineering decisions or judgments.
  • METCEA member shall not directly or indirectly harm another METCEA member's professional reputation.
  • METCEA member shall not accept any unauthorised commission, discount, allowance, or profit, whether direct or indirect, in connection with any work under his charge or any professional business entrusted to him.
  • METCEA member shall not act in any way that may harm the association's reputation or image or cause financial or other harm to the association.
